A painter of both the canvas and outside corner…
Johnny Wit is a Boston-based painter whose influences and inspiration come from multiple sources: a childhood fascination with graffiti and street art, a five-year career as a professional baseball player, and off-season stints working in art galleries and waiting tables at a high-end restaurant. A lifelong sketcher, he began formalizing his artistic talents with a painting course his sophomore year at Boston College. He was instantly hooked, not by the fumes of oil paint, but by the versatility and emotional depth oil paint could convey through color and texture. After graduating from BC in 2019, Wit got signed by the St. Louis Cardinals as a right-handed pitcher. During off seasons from baseball, he painted and honed his craft, switching to acrylics and working on a variety of surfaces—canvases, skate decks, guitars, and panels. His style is graphic, flat, colorful, clean, layered, and balanced…oh, and infused with elements of pop culture. Wit notes, “Both painting and pitching are based on the repetition of seemingly mundane yet essential tasks and exercises necessary to fine tune one’s technique and abilities.”
